This is the moment a resident saves his pet dog from being eaten by a huge python in Thailand.

Footage shows the local hitting the serpent with a stick in a yard in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya on October 31.

Reports said that the owner heard a strange noise outside his house and was shocked to see his pet dog being attacked by the snake, which was slowly wrapping itself around the canine.

The python eventually released the dog and slithered away, leaving the pooch unharmed.

The reticulated python is found throughout Southeast Asia, where they live in forests, swamps, canals and even in cities, causing them to come into conflict with humans.

The species is one of the world's largest snakes and can eat humans, cats, dogs, birds, rats and other snakes.
