Snake catchers removed an injured snake that was caught by a farmer eating his ducks.

The wildlife rescue team was contacted by resident Somneuk, who snared the 13ft (4 m) reptile that devoured two geese from his neighbour's coop in Samut Prakan, Thailand, on November 13.

Footage shows the volunteers arriving at the scene and finding the serpent with a harpoon pierced through its back.

The team members carefully removed the sharp tool from its body and carried the python outside the property.

They measured it on the street, its stomach still bulging from the birds it stole from the farmer.

Somneuk said: 'My neighbour called me for help. The snake was so big and they were already too old to handle it themselves. We were scared it would attack us so we had to pin it down with the spear.'

The snake was taken to an animal facility to receive treatment and rehabilitation before its release to the wild.

Pythons are protected species in Thailand, so it is illegal to harm or kill them. However, the incident will be evaluated if it is done in self-defence.

The reticulated python is found throughout Southeast Asia, where they live in forests, swamps, canals and even in cities, causing them to come into conflict with humans. The species is one of the world's largest snakes and can eat humans, cats, dogs, birds, rats and other snakes.
