STORYLINE:

China's thriving logistics sector is creating new opportunities for transportation companies by embracing innovation and enhancing global market connectivity, said Kawal Preet, president of Asia Pacific, Federal Express Corporation (FedEx).

"In December last year, we announced a significant investment in our South China operation center. That will be ready by 2027, and that shows the capacity that we are creating to continue to support the growth of e-commerce industry in southern China. Recently, in October, we announced our upgrade of the Shanghai Pudong facility, which is to actually develop that as an international transshipment hub. That is a significant development."

In the 2023 International Logistics Performance Index (LPI) released by the World Bank, the Chinese mainland ranks 19th among 139 listed countries and regions.

"China has made incredible and remarkable progress in developing the logistics infrastructure and modernizing it. To meet the demands of an evolving market, FedEx is continuously expanding its sustainability efforts and exploring and investing in a variety of emerging technologies.

"When we look at our progress here in China, we've been investing significantly to drive innovation, because our mission is to make supply chains smarter for everyone. Sustainability is a big part of our agenda [and] also supports China's logistics development plan."

Currently, FedEx serves six international airports in China and operates over 300 international cargo flights per week. The company is committed to enhancing its logistics network and supporting the continued growth of cross-border cargo in China.
