Columbia University students staged a protest against Veterans Day.

Footage captured by Lishi Baker shows the activists on campus, reportedly aiming to reclaim Veterans Day in honour of Palestinians killed in Gaza on November 11.

The demonstration, called 'Martyrs Day,' was met with strong pushback from student-veterans who sought to counter the event.

Around 30 Columbia student-veterans and their supporters were gathered at the campus sundial early Monday morning, planting American flags and creating a lively scene with music and a football toss.

Across the quad, a smaller group of protesters sat in front of the library, echoing calls for solidarity and remembrance for those who, as described by one declaration, 'resisted, whether violently or non-violently.'

Veterans Day is a U.S. holiday honouring military veterans, observed annually on November 11 to mark the end of World War I.
