Philippine Air Force deliver aid to typhoon-hit provinces
The Philippine Air Force (PAF) delivered aid to typhoon-hit provinces as another cyclone looms in the Philippines.
The troops loaded Black Hawk helicopters with boxes of relief supplies, which were delivered to the storm-battered northern provinces of Isabela, Cagayan, and Batanes, on November 12 and 13.
The Philippine Air Force said in a statement: 'Utilising two Black Hawk helicopters from the PAF's Air Mobility Command, one thousand boxes of family food packs were transported to the hard-to-reach coastal areas of Maconacon, Isabela, while 1,650 boxes of relief supplies were delivered to the islands of Fuga and Calayan in Cagayan.
'Meanwhile, the PAF's C130 aircraft also performed multiple sorties in the past few days to transport relief packs to Basco, Batanes, that will also benefit other communities in the northernmost islands of Itbayat and Sabtang.'
The Philippines has been reeling from four consecutive storms that slammed into the country's northern region in the past three weeks.
Philippine weather agency PAGASA said the latest typhoon, Usagi, locally known as Ofel, made landfall in Baggao town in Cagayan province at 1:30 pm on November 14.
The agency said: 'It will continue to weaken throughout the forecast period due to frictional effects of land, as well as the increasingly unfavorable environment over the Luzon Strait and the sea east of Taiwan.'
Authorities have raised the highest storm alert and evacuated thousands in Cagayan province as PAGASA warned of 'life-threatening' coastal waves and intense rains.
Usagi is the fifth storm to batter the Philippines in three weeks.
PAGASA was also monitoring Tropical Storm Man-yi, which entered the Philippine storm monitoring zone on Thursday evening.
The Philippines experiences frequent and intense storms especially during the typhoon season from June to November, due to its location in the Pacific typhoon belt. These storms often bring heavy rain, strong winds, and flooding that cause significant damage to infrastructure, agriculture, and communities.
