Raining of Cash in Jiangxi: Pedestrians Rush to Collect Hundreds of Bills That Fell from the Sky
On November 4th in Shangrao, Jiangxi, an unusual sight stunned locals when a flurry of hundred-yuan bills began fluttering down from the sky, resembling a "rain of money." Pedestrians passing by quickly dove to collect the cash as it rained down.
Mr. Chen, a local resident, was cycling by and stopped to investigate. He noticed the bills were all in hundred-yuan denominations, adding up to a substantial sum. Concerned that someone might be in trouble upstairs, he alerted others to leave the money while he continued to gather it. He also called the police to report the strange occurrence.
When officers arrived, they meticulously surveyed the area to ensure no money was left behind. After counting the cash, they confirmed that a total of 5,400 yuan had been collected from the street, with an additional 1,000 yuan found on a windowsill, bringing the total to over 6,000 yuan.
Through a door-to-door investigation in the building, the police learned that a senior resident on the third floor, suspected of suffering from Alzheimer's disease, was likely responsible. Neighbors confirmed that the elderly man had previously thrown objects out of his window. Upon visiting his home, the police confirmed that the money indeed came from him.
The elderly man’s daughter-in-law, Ms. Zeng, revealed that the money was his life savings. On the day of the incident, she wasn’t home, and explained that the 86-year-old man rarely left the house due to health issues and was not very communicative.
Thanks to the efforts of concerned citizens and police, all the money was eventually returned to the elderly man’s family
