This is the spectacular moment a vibrant pink sunset illuminated the skies over the Philippines amid successive typhoons.

Locals were in awe at the breathtakingly rare cloud formation above Catanduanes on November 13.

Footage shows the sky painted in hues of pink and violet, accompanied by scattered clouds.

The filmer said: 'I have never seen pink clouds in my life. It was beautiful.'

Scientists said that an increase in aerosols or fine particulate matter in the air scatters and reflects sunlight, enhancing the spectrum of colours visible at sunset.

Pink clouds often occur when the sun is low on the horizon, as its rays pass through a thicker layer of the atmosphere, intensifying the colours.
