This is the dramatic moment a firework flew from a worshipper's hand as she posed at a Buddhist festival.

The devotee was dressed to the nines in handmade silk for the Loy Krathong event in Sukhothai province, Thailand, on November 12.

But her fancy social media video went wrong when an explosive fired backwards at the people standing behind her.

She said she was relieved nobody was hurt and would avoid handling firecrackers at next year's event.

Loy Krathong is a traditional Buddhist festival celebrated on the full moon night of the 12th month in the lunar calendar, usually in November.

The festival is known for its beautiful and symbolic practice of releasing krathongs, or small, decorated floating vessels made from banana leaves, flowers, candles, and incense, onto rivers, canals, or other bodies of water.

There are similar festivities in Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.
