Worshippers release candle-lit floats into river for Buddhist festival
Buddhist worshippers released candle-lit floats into a river for the Loy Krathong Festival.
Footage shows thousands of brightly-lit decorative floating vessels made from coconut shells drifting along the water in Phichit province, Thailand on November 15.
There was music and the banks was decorated with colourful LED lights shaped like trees and flowers.
Star-shaped lamps were also hanging overhead as the tourists and locals gathered for the event.
Dong Subdistrict Administrative Organisation chief Peerapot Srisakul said: 'The highlight of the event was the lava krathong, made from coconut shells to prevent waste in the water.
'We also put up a community market with more than 60 stalls selling food, desserts, fruit, and vegetables.'
More than 10,000 krathongs were floated on the river and the visitors could enjoy art performances and sound and light displays.
Loy Krathong is a traditional Thai festival celebrated on the full moon night of the 12th month in the Thai lunar calendar, usually in November. The festival is known for its beautiful and symbolic practice of releasing krathongs, or small, decorated floating vessels made from banana leaves, flowers, candles, and incense, onto rivers, canals, or other bodies of water.
