STORYLINE:
Ahead of the G20 summit to be held in Brazil, a Tanzanian observer has noted that China advocates for fairer representation of developing nations in global governance.
SOUNDBITE (English): BENJAMIN MGANA, Chief editor of foreign news at The Guardian, Tanzania
"The (G20) slogan ("Building a just world and a sustainable planet") aligns closely with Tanzania and Africa's aspirations for a more balanced global structure that addresses inequalities and promotes long-term sustainability. China-Africa cooperation embodies these goals.
China has been instrumental in supporting the multilateral trading system through the World Trade Organization (WTO) and in opening its market to African goods. An example is the China International Import Expo (CIIE), where Tanzanian products like honey and coffee gain exposure to the vast Chinese market, promoting mutual economic growth.
By prioritizing development issues, China supports sustainable projects that align with the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. The Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) has been a vital platform where China commits to helping African countries meet sustainable development goals, enhancing sectors from healthcare to infrastructure.
The GDI (Global Development Initiative) reflects China's commitment to addressing global development disparities. For Tanzania and Africa, it means focusing on areas such as agriculture, healthcare, and technological advancement, all of which are critical for development and long-term economic stability.
China advocates for fairer representation of developing nations in global governance. This is evident through China's support in forums like the G77, as well as its role in reforming international financial institutions, allowing countries like Tanzania to have a stronger voice on the global stage."
