STORYLINE:

An academic forum celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Romania was held Friday at the Romanian Academy in Bucharest.

The event brought together around 100 scholars and officials. It was co-hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Romania and the Romanian Academy, with support from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and the Alliance of National and International Science Organizations for the Belt and Road Regions.

Chinese Ambassador to Romania Han Chunlin highlighted the long-standing scientific and technological collaboration between the two countries.

With ever-deepening Belt and Road cooperation, said Han, scientific and research collaboration between China and Romania has developed broad prospects and become increasingly close in recent years. The ambassador urged deeper partnerships in emerging technologies and basic research.

Citing the complementary strengths of Romania and China, Romanian Academy Vice President Marius Andruh called for expanded collaboration in addressing global challenges such as climate change and artificial intelligence (AI).

"So, I do hope that our future cooperation will be very strong because the interest is from both sides. Romanian scientists are interested in pursuing research with their colleagues in China. And Chinese institutes and universities are also interested in developing common projects with Romania. This forum, I strongly believe, opens new perspectives for very active and dynamic cooperation between our two countries. Ambitious objectives can be reached by the common effort of Chinese and Romanian scientists."

The forum featured six specialized lectures on themes including AI, climate change and Sino-Western cultural exchanges, with scholars outlining future directions for bilateral research cooperation.
