US, Los Angeles: Pomona Small Plane Crash With Sound On Tape
Los Angeles, United States - November 17, 2024 11/17/2024 11:09 am (GMT-0800) Pomona – SOT Transcript: "Yes, sir. It's engineer Jonathan Torres and I'm a public information officer for the Los Angeles County Fire Department. So, maybe you can tell us where you're going. Yes, sir. Good morning. So, approximately this morning, about 11-11 this morning, units were dispatched and actually on scene. They started, they called it in themselves. They were here on scene for the NHRA drag strip, as we can see here on scene. Units were dispatched for aircraft down. It was a single engine plane that made contact with a couple of vehicles before ultimately hitting the ground. From what we know, the units rendered life-saving emergency medical services, as well as mitigating any fire potential from the surrounding vehicles, generators, and things of that sort. From what we know, we have two critical patients and two moderate that have been transported to the local emergency rooms. Health Hazmat has been initiated. They have made contact here on scene, as well as they're mitigating any jet fuel that was lost in the accident, as well as NTSB, as well as FAA have been notified. They may or may not be on scene currently and the incident is under investigation as we speak. The two people, the people that were injured were dead in the plane From what we understand, all four souls aboard the plane were the four patients that were transported. So no injuries to people on the ground. Any student flying? That I can confirm. I don't want to speculate, but we do know that the pilot did miss the drag strip and the grandstand altogether. So just shy of that. Can you take us like a quick little speed here? So I'm a little disoriented right now just because of the driving I've been doing around, but the airplane did come from that direction. And when it ultimately ended on the ground, it was pointed in that direction towards the drag strip. So from behind the grandstand towards the drag strip. So that I can confirm. I don't know what the process was with the plane, but it did make an emergency landing on us. Do you know if there was a B.D. car or anything? That I can confirm. Sir, I'm sure that's under investigation that will be confirmed at a later time. What did you have to see to allow the races? I'm sorry. Is there anything that you guys had to see to allow the races to continue today? So from what I know, the jet fuel on the floor has been mitigated with absorbent. There is a perimeter set up. And from what I understand, the incident commander has deemed it fit for the drag race to continue. So as I know, I can hear the cars revving up now. So I believe that's underway as we speak. How much longer? I know it's going to be several hours just because of the cleanup crew for the jet fuel as well as the absorbent on the ground before the scene will be safe for the public to enter. The cause is still unknown? That's correct, ma'am. It'll be under investigation until the FAA and NTSB can make their determinations. That I can't comment on, sir. I apologize. That's still under investigation. Do you guys have the flight or the plane number or plane number? You know what? I don't have that information, but if you check back with our incident commander, I don't know if that that info may be made public to yourself."
