A rat tried to steal roast chickens but had a serving of instant karma when he became stuck inside the oven.

The large rodent slipped into the rotisserie while the workers were preparing the meat in Manila, the Philippines, on August 17.

Footage shows the pest cowering in the corner of the glass and metal machine as heat started to fill inside.

But the rat did not show fear and continued to try and reach some of the skewered chickens from the safe spot in the corner.

Onlooker Renz Posadas who was waiting for the bus with friends said: 'We told the shop attendants about the rat. They did not believe us at first so I showed them the video. I hope they caught it before it contaminated the food.'
