A kind passerby helped retrieve a pensioner's motorcycle sidecar that fell into a canal.

Tom Songtang was travelling home on a dirt road when he saw his uncle Puth in the water with his submerged three-wheeler in Kalasin province, Thailand, on November 4.

Footage shows good Samaritan Tom pulling over and approaching the distressed local who was trying to detach the scooter without success.

He offered to assist Puth until another neighbour saw them, and the trio did the DIY retrieval operation.

Footage shows Tom pulling a long cloth tied to the motorcycle while his two companions were below, pushing it upwards.

Tom said: 'My uncle hit a rock, and he was sent to the edge, slipping down into the water. We did what we could to help him.'

After almost three minutes, the residents successfully pulled the vehicle to higher ground, but its engine was water-damaged.

Tom helped tow it back to the pensioner's home, where it would be repaired.

He added: 'It feels great to help other people.
