On the morning of November 18, at around 7:35 am, part of the roof of an ice skating rink in Baicheng, Jilin Province, collapsed, sending up clouds of dust.

According to confirmation from Baicheng’s fire department, the skating rink was closed at the time of the incident, so there were no casualties.

Staff at the skating rink indicated that the preliminary cause of the accident was believed to be deformation of the roof’s steel structure, possibly due to construction quality issues. Baicheng city officials and relevant departments quickly arrived on the scene and established an investigation team to look further into the cause of the collapse.

The construction project for the skating rink was approved in 2017 and handed over for use by the Baicheng Sports Team at the end of 2019.

The skating rink covers an area of 7,077.16 square meters and includes facilities such as competition areas, athlete changing and shower rooms, activity rooms, a gym, and training classrooms. The project’s total investment was over 54.55 million yuan, with the final audited settlement cost determined to be 52.06 million yuan.
