A wild monkey broke into a room and bit a sleeping conservationist who rescued it from a village.

The primate was caught in July raiding homes but escaped its cage and slipped into the radio control room of a facility in Vientiane, Laos in Vientiane, Laos on November 12.

CCTV footage shows the animal making a beeline for female rescuer Tomview Soulivong's head as she was lying on the mattress on the floor.

It clung to her back and attacked her, but she was able to roll over and push the monkey off.

The angry simian hugged her leg as it bit her, and despite trying to flee, it chased after her to hurt her more.

Tomview said: 'We were resting after a long shift when the monkey entered the room. It was really aggressive.

'Around four months ago, we captured the monkey as it was causing damage at a village.'

When a male colleague entered the room, the monkey stopped but continued to try to find a chance to pounce on Tomview.

She said: 'I was bit on my left arm with scratches all over me.'

The wildlife rescue officer was taken to a hospital to receive tetanus vaccination.

Rescuers later caught the aggressive monkey and took it back to its cage. It was then transferred to a conservation facility for rehabilitation.
