China's commitment to green technology and renewable energy is driving sustainable energy transitions in Africa, said African experts.
SOUNDBITE 1 (English): BENJAMIN MGANA, Chief editor of Foreign News of the Guardian in Tanzania
"China's dedication to green technology and renewable energy can provide Africa with sustainable alternatives to fossil fuels. Projects like green energy and solar power development are helping African nations, including Tanzania, move towards more sustainable energy sources, contributing to global emissions reduction."
SOUNDBITE 2 (English): DENNIS MUNENE MWANIKI, Executive director of China-Africa Center at Africa Policy Institute
"China has been at the forefront in ensuring that we deal with issues of climate change. China has been at the forefront in pushing for the energy transition to ensure that we get to embrace solar energy, to ensure that we embrace hydro energy, to ensure that we embrace wind energy. And one of the things that China has done is to fund most of those projects to ensure that they are well-funded and offer technical support. You look at country South Africa, China has been able to ensure that we are able to push for green energy to reduce the energy crises that South Africa is facing.
In Kenya here, China was able to fund and construct the Garissa Solar Power Plant, which has been able to add green energy to the national grid and ensure that our industries are well powered, to ensure that our homes are well powered. So China has really played a basic role and continues to play that role."
