Free Tibet protester, 64, calls for end of 'occupation' by Communist China
A Free Tibet protester has called for an end to the 'occupation' by Communist China.
Jamyang Tenzin, 64, is cycling from Tawang to New Delhi's Jantar Mantar to raise awareness of Tibetan issues.
After covering 2,387 km in the past month and 14 days, he reached Bodh Gaya, Bihar, and gave a speech on Tibet's importance to India's border security.
Tenzin said: 'It is important for India and the Indian people to think about Tibet, and this is my goal to spread awareness.'
The activist began his trip on September 27, marked as 'Black Day' by the Tibetan community.
His route has taken him through Sikkim, Kalimpong, Gangtok, Bengal, Assam, and Jharkhand. He plans to conclude his awareness drive at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.
Throughout his journey, Tenzin said he aims to raise awareness about the challenges Tibetans face under Chinese rule, including the forced closure of schools and ongoing efforts to suppress Tibetan identity, language, and culture.
The Tibetan Youth Congress also launched a bicycle rally on September 24 to raise awareness ahead of the 75th anniversary of the People's Republic of China.
More than 50 Tibetans participated, starting in Dekyiling, passing through Chandigarh, and reaching New Delhi on October 1.
Gonpo Dhondup, President of the Tibetan Youth Congress, stated the campaign aims to end policies that erase Tibetan identity, demand human rights for Tibetans, and seek greater support from India for the Tibetan cause.
