Azerbaijan: China builds world's largest, most comprehensive new energy industrial chain
Baku, Azerbaijan - November 11, 2024 China has established the world's largest and most comprehensive new energy industrial chain, demonstrating its progress in green and low-carbon development, the country's top economic planner said Friday during the ongoing UN climate change conference in Baku, Azerbaijan. Wen Hua, deputy director of the Department of Resource Conservation and Environmental Protection of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), shared the country's impressive strides in green and low-carbon initiatives during his keynote speech at a side event themed "Energy Saving and Carbon Reduction: China's Actions" held at the China Pavilion during the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change or COP29. He noted that China has established the world's most systematic and comprehensive carbon reduction policy framework, with significant results in energy transition. The total installed capacity of wind and solar power generation has reached the internationally committed target more than six years ahead of schedule. Meanwhile, China has successfully optimized and upgraded its industrial structure, building the world's largest and most complete new energy industrial chain. Green transformation in the construction and transportation sectors has accelerated, with over 90 percent of new urban buildings now green-certified. What's more, the annual production of new energy vehicles has exceeded 10 million units this year, making the country the first in the world to reach this significant milestone. Wen also emphasized the country's significant improvements in resource utilization efficiency, noting that the productivity of major resources had increased by around 60 percent over the past decade.
