This is the terrifying moment a rhino attacked a motorcycle rider and chased him away in Nepal.

The beast heard the man approaching and sprung from a field before knocking him off his bike in Narayanghat, Bharatpur, on November 12.

Footage shows the wild animal charging at the terrified resident who ran away down the street to safety. The rhino then bumped into parked motorbikes on the roadside as it continued its rampage.

Onlooker Krishna said no one was injured in the encounter and the fully-grown rhino - which weighed around 2.5 tonnes - wandered back into the paddy field once it had calmed down.

Krishna said: 'We have a lot of rhinos but it's rare to see them attack anyone. If it happens, we have to just run away. Nobody is allowed to shoot them anymore.'

Nepal has seen a rise in recent years in the population of the greater one-horned rhinoceros, also known as the Indian rhinoceros, due to a ban on poaching and conservation efforts.

But there has also been a surge in clashes with humans in towns and villages. Locals also complain that the rhinos damage crops when they walk into agricultural land.

Additionally, there have been reports of rhino-related human injuries and fatalities, which further strain relations between residents and park authorities tasked with protecting the animals.
