This is the heroic moment neighbours use a blanket to catch a boy leaping from a burning building in Russia.

Footage shows locals stretching the fabric on the roof of a store, preparing to save the eight-year-old child as he clung to the window during the fire on October 18.

Sergey Bondarenko, Deputy Chief of Fire Station No. 5 in Orenburg, rescued the child as flames rapidly spread through the apartment.

With the fourth floor engulfed in blaze, Bondarenko bravely climbed a ladder and reached the distressed boy just in time.

Firefighters quickly shielded the child from the flames, while three adults were also rescued from the inferno.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
