This is the terrifying moment a rampaging Siberian tiger smashes into a gate as a terrified resident runs for cover in China.

Footage shows the local checking for the tiger's tracks outside his home in Hangtai Village, Boli County, Qitaihe City, Heilongjiang, on November 18.

Initially believing the barrier would protect him, the villager stood behind the fence as the wild animal launched an attack.

The tiger's force was so powerful that it distorted the metal gate as the resident fled to safety, escaping unharmed.

Local media reported that another villager was not as fortunate, suffering a bite to his left hand, which resulted in multiple fractures. The limb was saved, and his vital signs remained stable.

Local forestry and police were quickly on the scene, using drones to track the elusive tiger, believed to have come from nearby Caomao Ding Mountain.

Authorities are prioritising human safety while taking measures to protect the critically endangered Siberian tiger, listed on the IUCN Red List.

The tiger was eventually sedated with four injections of anesthesia before being subdued and taken away by the police.

The Siberian tiger, also known as the Amur, is native to the Russian Far East, Northeast China, and possibly North Korea.

The species is listed as 'Endangered' on IUCN's Red List of Threatened Species.
