This is the moment a group of asylum seekers are mocked as they move into a city centre hotel controversially earmarked to house migrants.

In a video posted by 'Truth Hurts', a YouTuber who documents immigration issues in the UK, the men are seen moving into the Dragonfly Hotel in Peterborough, Cambs.

He greets them as they arrive at the three-star hotel and tells them sarcastically: 'You'll love it - cup of tea out the back, a bit of cake - Victoria sponge?'.

Photos taken today (Nov 19) show the male asylum seekers sitting outside the hotel - with one on crutches - drinking out of mugs and smoking.

It comes as two local MPs slam the government's decision to house asylum seekers at the city hotel as 'inappropriate'.

Andrew Pakes, Labour MP for Peterborough and Sam Carling, Labour MP for North West Cambs have expressed their 'serious' concerns about the 'unsuitable' location.

The Home Office will house 146 asylum seekers at the Dragonfly Hotel with the first refugees already moved in.

The 70-bedroom hotel is located in the city centre, bordering Peterborough's rowing lake, a school and a nursery.

Hundreds of residents in the cathedral city have rushed to sign a petition opposing the plan.

The government informed Peterborough City Council of the decision on Thursday (Nov 14) with arrivals moving in just days afterwards.

The video shows furniture including mattresses and chairs being moved into the hotel which overlooks the rowing lake.

In a joint letter to Dame Angela Eagle, the minister for border security and asylum, Mr Pakes and Mr Carling said: "The Dragonfly Hotel is wholly unsuitable for this purpose, both for the city's residents and for the migrants involved."

"The surrounding area lacks the infrastructure to provide the necessary support, and the hotel's use for this purpose could significantly impact local services."

"We understand that the root of this issue lies in the enormous backlog of asylum cases caused by years of mismanagement under the previous Conservative government, leaving the current government to grapple with a system under immense strain."

"While we recognise that addressing this crisis will take time, the decision to house asylum seekers in local hotels is not a sustainable or acceptable solution for our communities."

"This situation requires urgent attention, and we will continue to advocate for a swift resolution that upholds the dignity of all those affected."

The pair added that Peterborough is a 'welcoming, tolerant city' but they were deeply disappointed by the decision.

Peterborough City Rowling Club - just 300 yards away from the three-star hotel - said they were unable to comment until further details of the proposal had been revealed.
