Estero, United States - November 17, 2024 A deputy was injured early Sunday morning in a crash on I-75 near Exit 123, when a driver distracted by watching a movie on their phone slammed into three Lee County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) vehicles. The crash occurred while deputies were assisting the Florida Highway Patrol with traffic control along the busy interstate. According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, the driver, identified as Calvin Engle, failed to notice the emergency vehicles ahead. One deputy sustained minor injuries but is expected to recover, while Engle was rushed to Gulf Coast Medical Center in critical condition. The incident is still under investigation, and authorities are urging drivers to stay alert and avoid distractions behind the wheel.
