A teenage girl was arrested for allegedly selling underage prostitutes in southern Thailand.

Nasfa, 18, reportedly recruited minors into becoming sex workers and sold their services to clients in Narathiwat province.

The Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division arranged a sting operation to arrest her following human trafficking and child exploitation investigations in the province.

Undercover agents called Nasfa, who said she would bring two 15-year-old prostitutes to meet them at a resort in the Muang District on November 18. Upon finding her at the scene with the minors in tow, officers swooped in to make the arrest.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Preecha Srisai of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division said: 'We took the suspect to the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division to proceed with legal action.'

Nasfa will face a raft of charges including human trafficking, prostituting children under 18, procuring or enticing children to engage in prostitution, gratifying the sexual desires of others with children under 18, providing protection for others involved in prostitution, and abducting children under 18.

The underage prostitutes were rescued and taken to the Social Development and Human Security office. Authorities said they will be interviewed to determine if they were human trafficking victims.

Underage prostitution is fairly common in Thailand despite government efforts to curb it through strict laws and enforcement initiatives. Driven by poverty, trafficking, and lack of education, vulnerable minors are sometimes forced into the sex industry to earn money.
