Dramatic footage shows the Popocatepetl volcano erupting in Mexico on November 18.

The volcano, nicknamed Don Goyo, recorded 36 exhalations on Monday, with the National Center for Disaster Prevention (Cenapred) and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) monitoring.

Currently, at yellow phase 2 on the Volcanic Alert Traffic Light system, the high-risk volcano continues to emit plumes of smoke and ash, with a risk of ballistic fragments near the crater.

Authorities urge the public to stay clear of the volcano due to the hazards posed by its ongoing activity, which highlights its unpredictable nature along the borders of Morelos, Puebla, and the State of Mexico.

Popocatepetl, which means 'smoking mountain' in the Aztec Nahuatl language, is the second-highest peak in Mexico and one of the country's most famous volcanoes, known for its frequent and violent eruptions.
