An injured porcupine was rescued from a wildfire in Ecuador.

The animal was saved by firefighters after suffering severe burns to its paws and quills, leaving its limbs numb.

It was found as authorities worked to control the flames in the Cajas National Park area in Llaviuco on November 20.

After the harrowing rescue, the distressed porcupine was swiftly transported to a veterinarian for immediate care and recovery.

A porcupine is a large rodent known for its coat of sharp, needle-like quills that it uses for defence against predators.

Authorities said the wildfire began on November 12 and has consumed 300 hectares.

Cajas National Park is crucial to Ecuador's environment, housing 786 lagoons and providing a habitat for diverse animal and plant species.
