Philippine Air Force planes fly to storm-stricken province to bring typhoon aid
Philippine Air Force (PAF) planes delivered relief goods to a province ravaged by super typhoon Man-yi.
Footage shows soldiers loading boxes of relief supplies into an army plane in Pasay City, Metro Manila on November 20. The aircraft then flew to the Virac Airport in Catanduanes province, where Man-yi made landfall.
PAF said in a statement: 'Two PAF airlift assets, a C-130 and an NC-212i, were deployed from Pasay City to Virac Airport in Catanduanes to transport essential relief supplies, including 800 boxes of Family Food Packs (FFPs) provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). '
Man-yi, known locally as 'Pepito', made landfall as a super typhoon on Catanduanes island late November 16 evening with maximum sustained winds of around 120 miles per hour. The storm killed at least eight people.
Philippine weather agency PAGASA said it weakened as it moved across the Luzon island landmass. It has left the Philippine storm monitoring zone on November 18 afternoon.
Man-yi is the sixth major storm to pound the Philippines in a month. Five other storms had sliced through the northern and eastern regions of the country, killing at least 163 people and wiping out farmlands and coastal homes.
The Philippines experiences frequent and intense storms especially during the typhoon season from June to November, due to its location in the Pacific typhoon belt. These storms often bring heavy rain, strong winds, and flooding that cause significant damage to infrastructure, agriculture, and communities.
