This is the incredible moment a patient sang during his operation in India.

Ganga Ram Yadav, 70, suffered from a hernia and was taken to the hospital for surgery under local anesthesia in Janjgir, Chhattisgarh, on November 20.

The patient was reported to have suffered palpitations and high blood pressure when he heard what kind of medical operation would be performed on him.

This prompted the doctors to encourage him to sing to calm down and normalise his blood pressure.

Footage shows Ganga singing 'Tu 16 Baras Ki Main 17 Baras Ka' – translated as 'You are 16 years old, I am 17 years old' – during the surgery.

After singing the '80s hit song, he conversed with the attending physician.

Local reports said that the patient had a successful operation and is now under observation.

Singing can help reduce the body's stress response by triggering the release of endorphins, the 'feel-good' hormones. This can help calm patients and reduce the feelings of anxiety or fear that can be associated with surgery.

Hernia surgery can be performed under local anaesthesia in certain cases, depending on the type and location of the hernia, as well as the patient's health and preferences.

Local anesthesia is often used for smaller hernias such as inguinal hernias, particularly when the surgery is done using an open repair technique rather than laparoscopic surgery.
