STORYLINE:
Türkiye's first quantum computer became operational on Thursday, according to Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz.
The 5-qubit quantum computer "QuanT" developed by Ankara's TOBB University of Economics and Technology (TOBB ETU), represents a groundbreaking achievement in the country's pursuit of technological excellence, Yilmaz said on social media platform X.
The quantum computer aims to increase the international competitiveness of Türkiye in computing technologies in many fields such as cryptography, artificial intelligence, the defense industry, and materials science, he said.
TOBB ETU is also taking steps to create a "Quantum Ecosystem" that will support young researchers and foster the development of indigenous hardware and components, according to the semi-official Anadolu Agency.
