STORYLINE:
A ceremony was held on Thursday to mark the completion of a high school building renovation project, supported by the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar.
At the event, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein thanked the Chinese side for assisting in refurbishing the school building, saying that the contribution to educational development is beneficial for Myanmar and strengthens China-Myanmar "Paukphaw" (fraternal) friendship.
The two-story school building at No. 14 Basic Education High School in Hlaingthaya township of Yangon region was originally constructed and donated by the Chinese embassy in 2017.
The renovation work included replacing the roof, filling deep flood-prone areas in front of the school building with sand and laying a concrete floor, as well as repairing the school's windows, he said.
Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Ma Jia said at the event that China and Myanmar have a long history of relations, and the China-Myanmar friendship school building is a result and a symbol of the enduring fraternal friendship between the two countries.
