Wild monkeys terrorised locals as they overran a town in central Thailand.

Chaotic footage shows the apocalyptic takeover as troops of aggressive macaques ran rampant on the streets of Lopburi on August 22. Several of them climbed onto vehicles and shamelessly plucked drinks from the back of a pick-up truck.

More of the invasive creatures were seen clambering over buildings in search of food.

The unruly primates have become a notorious tourist attraction in the small town centre some 90 miles north of the capital Bangkok. Locals believe they bring good luck to the area and tolerate them causing havoc while roaming freely among buildings.

However, the animals have even spawned into highly aggressive territorial troops with different homes, including an ancient Buddhist temple, an abandoned cinema and a railway line.
