SOUNDBITE (English): JOSEF GREGORY MAHONEY, Professor of politics at East China Normal University
"Chinese people have experienced tremendous growth and development, like lifting (nearly) 800 million people out of poverty, eliminating extreme poverty as well as establishing a middle-income population of more than 400 million and achieving the Xiao Kang or moderately prosperous society goal.
I think the Chinese people have a very clear idea or in terms of what they've witnessed for a stand and continue to witness every day the tremendous success that has been fostered by the CPC (Communist Party of China), but this is a success that is due substantially to the positive relationship between the people and the Party. It's not simply the Party as some external source, but the Party working together with the people, the people working together with the Party, in order to transform this country for the greater good.
What we see is a political organization that had a vision and created plans, and then these plans were well executed and achieved the results, the long-term vision."
Xinhua News Agency correspondents reporting from Shanghai, China.
