Lake Lure, United States - November 21, 2024 In the wake of Hurricane Helene's historic flooding, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has mobilized to aid recovery efforts in western North Carolina, with aerial observation and debris removal underway at Lake Lure. USACE, in collaboration with local, state, and federal agencies—including FEMA—is addressing widespread damage. Efforts extend beyond Lake Lure to Asheville, Buncombe, Polk, and McDowell counties, and even the North Carolina Arboretum. Alongside clearing debris, the Corps is working with Asheville and Buncombe County to secure safe drinking water, a critical need following the catastrophic storm.
