Iceland - November 21, 2024 An extraordinary video taken from an airplane has captured Iceland’s latest volcanic eruption in breathtaking detail. Posted by X user Kayleigh on November 21st, the footage reveals fiery lava fountains and billowing smoke as seen from above, offering a rare and stunning perspective on the eruption. The volcano, located on the Reykjanes Peninsula about 20 miles from Reykjavik, erupted at 11:14 p.m. local time on November 20th. Magma tore open a fissure nearly two miles long after just 45 minutes of warning signs, according to Iceland’s meteorological office. Though smaller than eruptions earlier this year in August and May, the event’s aerial view amplifies its impact. Kayleigh, who shared the video, captioned it: “My life has peaked. Nothing is ever topping this.” Experts confirmed no disruptions to air travel or infrastructure despite the dramatic display. This marks the seventh eruption on the peninsula this year, as magma continues to accumulate beneath the region. While authorities had issued warnings of potential activity, the video captures the raw power of Iceland’s ever-changing volcanic landscape.
