Deltona, United States - November 19, 2024 A violent altercation at Deltona Middle School on November 19 led to the arrest of a Florida couple after they attacked a school resource deputy who had booked their son for battery the previous day. Jorge Rivera, 46, and his wife Dagmarie Aponte Iturrino, 45, stormed the school to protest their son’s charge for shoving a girl. When a meeting with the deputy escalated, Rivera became irate, verbally abusing the officer, before physically assaulting her. He allegedly punched the deputy in the head, knocking her to the ground, and ripped her Taser from her hand. Rivera also reportedly put the school principal in a headlock during the chaos. The deputy, who was later treated for concussion symptoms, managed to draw her firearm and take Rivera into custody. Both parents were arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, and trespassing. Sheriff Mike Chitwood condemned the attack, calling the parents “Exhibit A” in explaining why some children lack fear of consequences. Rivera now faces additional charges, including robbery with a weapon and a hate crime enhancement for derogatory slurs used during the assault.
