Argentina: Dramatic accident at the Tucumán rally: a car lost control and ran over a cameraman
Lules, Argentina - November 24, 2024 A serious accident marked the day of the crowning date of the Tucumán Provincial Rally, held in Lules. During the first pass of the Río Las Tablas-La Papelera section, one of the most emblematic and challenging of the competition, a vehicle lost control and left the dirt track. Before stopping, it hit a spectator. The Fiat Regatta driven by the pilot Francisco Martín entered the first ford of the route at high speed. In the middle of the maneuver, the car went out of control and hit Pablo Carrizo, a cameraman and photographer who was covering the competition. Although most of those present managed to get away, the journalist suffered significant injuries and was initially transferred to the Lules hospital, and then transferred to the Concepción hospital. After several hours of observation, he was finally discharged. According to Tucuman media such as El Monterizo and Central de Noticias, Carrizo suffered injuries to one leg that included deep cuts and a dislocated knee. This episode revived criticism of the security measures at the rally. Although the organizers had arranged for the presence of police in the area, the press highlighted that no perimeter tape was placed to delimit restricted access areas. “People were not located in the appropriate place,” said a driver in conversation with La Gaceta de Tucumán.
