Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte threatened to have her political rival President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. assassinated amid a widening rift between the two former election partners.

Sara, the daughter of notorious former President Rodrigo Duterte who led the country's bloody war on drugs, revealed the shocking assassination plot in a profanity-laden virtual press conference on November 23.

Video shows her being asked about the verbal jousting with Marcos, himself the son of notoriously corrupt nepo-couple Ferdinand Marcos and wife Imelda, who was best known for her sprawling collection of designer shoes.

She said: 'I have talked to a person. I said, if I get killed, go kill BBM (Marcos), (first lady) Liza Araneta, and (House of Representatives speaker) Martin Romualdez. No joke. No joke.

'I've already left a directive. After I'm killed, don't stop until you've killed them all. And then he said, yes.'

The Presidential Security Group said it has strengthened President Marcos Jr.'s security detail following the threat. The National Bureau of Investigation said it would also issue a subpoena over the threats. The Department of Justice said the Vice President may also face sedition raps.

Duterte later walked back on her remark and claimed her statements were 'maliciously taken out of logical context'. However, she continued hurling barbs at the president, whose family she linked to the assassination of known Marcos critic Benigno Aquino Jr. in 1983.

Footage shows Duterte being interviewed on the sidelines of a Congress hearing on November 25. She said: 'Didn't the entire nation fight back when they plotted the assassination of Benigno Aquino?'

Duterte and Marcos were running mates during the Philippine 2022 presidential elections. Their alliance won a landslide victory, but collapsed this year over differences in foreign policy in the South China Sea and the war on drugs.

Duterte and her family have since become outspoken critics of the current administration. Her latest outburst was sparked by an ongoing Congressional investigation by Marcos's allies into the alleged misuse of her budget as vice president and former education secretary.
