Huge sinkhole swallows cars in Wuhan, China
A huge sinkhole opened up in the road and swallowed cars in China.
Two vehicles plummeted into the weakened section of a highway in Wuhan, leaving one individual injured on November 23.
Footage shows the red and black cars trapped inside the collapsed motorway, with one victim stuck by his leg.
Local media reported that two other drivers managed to climb out of the sinkhole.
Police and paramedics quickly arrived at the scene and transported the injured driver to a nearby hospital.
Sinkholes can form from natural shifts in the foundations. However, human activity, such as drilling, water diversion, and pond creation, can also contribute to the formation of sinkholes.
Also, underlying rock made of soft materials like limestone or gypsum increases the risk of sinkholes. Additionally, structural integrity can be compromised by underground construction, further exacerbating the issue.
