Providence, United States - November 22, 2024 A routine catch basin cleaning took a dramatic turn when RIDOT workers discovered two raccoons struggling to stay afloat in a rapidly filling drain. As the rainwater rose, the animals were unable to escape, treading water in their desperate bid for survival. The Westerly Animal Shelter responded swiftly, with animal control officers rescuing the raccoons and returning them safely to their natural habitat. “We’re happy to help these critters go back home,” the shelter posted on social media, sharing video footage of the rescue operation.
