This 6 metre Basking Shark, Cetorhinus maximus, was encountered close to Port Erin on the Isle of Man on the 2nd of June 2018. It was swimming back and forth in a small bay close to shore feeding in a rich area of plankton. Following the Shark Trust's Basking Shark Code of Conduct the kayakers were able to predict the sharks progress through the bay and position themselves where the shark was likely to pass by. Fortunately the shark chose to turn several times and pass directly under the stationary kayakers enabling them to capture this footage without causing any disturbance.
