British motorbike rider, 53, 'crashes into drunk local' in Thailand
A British tourist crashed his motorcycle into a drunk local who allegedly tried to block his way on the road.
Martin John Holmes, 53, was riding a red and black Kawasaki Z900 at night when Surat Sirichan, 45, dashed to the middle of Jomtien Sai 2 Road according to witnesses in Pattaya, Thailand, on November 26.
The British holidaymaker tried to stop, but the distance was too short and slammed the 948 cc engine motorbike onto the intoxicated resident, causing both of them to be injured.
Footage shows the Brit with a large reddish bruise on his shoulder after the crash. He was only two steps away from the local he struck, who was lying face down on the concrete ground with only one shoe.
One of the witnesses said: 'Surat appeared to be intoxicated and blocked the motorcycle. He was not riding fast, but it was a short distance, so they crashed.'
Martin was scrolling on his phone, sitting on the median while the allegedly intoxicated jaywalker was being checked upon by onlookers who were waiting for rescuers.
Medics later arrived in an ambulance and attended to Surat, who was wearing a red shirt with black pants and put him on a stretcher to be sent to the hospital.
The other rescuers then gave Martin first aid treatment for his injuries. His helmet was hanging on the handlebars of his Kawasaki beside him.
No official complaint has been filed with police yet, as onlookers claimed it was the drunk local who had caused the crash.
