US: Hillsborough River Kayakers Rescued After Getting Stranded in Darkness
United States - November 24, 2024 Three kayakers stranded on the Hillsborough River were rescued in a dramatic operation on November 24, 2024, after losing their way as night fell. At approximately 6:30 p.m., the kayakers called the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) for help when they could not find their exit point. Using advanced technology, the HCSO Aviation Section quickly located the individuals. The HCSO Marine Unit, in coordination with Hillsborough County Fire Rescue (HCFR) and park rangers, launched a swift response to bring the kayakers to safety. Fortunately, all three were rescued without injury. Sheriff Chad Chronister praised the successful teamwork: "This rescue highlights the importance of our specialized skills and the collaboration between our units. We’re proud our deputies and partners brought these individuals home safely."
