Footage shows a massive pile-up as SUVs and other cars slide down a frozen road in icy conditions, colliding with each other and knocking over signposts.

The video captures a first SUV sliding uncontrollably past another vehicle, unable to stop as it heads toward a busy intersection in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Kamchatka Krai, Russia, on Sunday, November 24.

The SUV then rams into the back of another car while another SUV, approaching from behind, honks its horn to warn anyone in its path that it cannot stop.

One driver appears to get the message, skillfully manoeuvring around the SUV just in time to avoid a collision.

The large vehicle continues down the road, hitting another car as one motorist attempts to stop it with his bare hands.

Local media reports say dozens of motorists collided in the snowy conditions, with locals describing the roads as 'skating rinks.'

It remains unclear if there were any injuries following the incident.
