A caribou with antlers shedding velvet fed on lichens on a branch as winter set in.

Footage shows the herbivorous mammal munching the fluffy light green crust and plucking off a stick, as it was offered by Northwest Trek Wildlife Park keeper in Eatonville, Washington, on November 23.

Its horn was smooth, with the velvet peeling off and drying on its head, marking the shifting of season.

Caribou are the only species of deer in which both males and females grow antlers. In Europe, they are also known as reindeer.
