A schoolboy who slipped from a coastal walkway was rescued by heroic locals who formed a human chain.

Footage shows the youngster struggling to stay afloat in the arms of a Good Samaritan as the choppy waves battered into the concrete sea wall in Negros Oriental, the Philippines, on November 26.

The tides pushed the pair back and forth, unable to climb back due to the force of the water.

Another local jumped into the water to help and the three drifted to the side where there were more people who reached to help them.

A human chain was made by Good Samaritans and pulled all of them into safety.

The boy was weak when he was rescued, with police rushing into a hospital to receive treatment.

Onlooker Marty Entienza Ablong said: ' We visited a night market nearby and heard someone shouting. We were grateful for the brave men who helped rescue him. They are heroes risking their lives for the kid.'

The Philippines and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are at the start of their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms. The rudimentary infrastructure often struggles with the deluge, leading to widespread flash floods.
