Footage of an Olive Ridley sea turtle struggling to swim with its one remaining flipper, after the other three were lost when it became entangled in abandoned fishing gear.

The heartwarming video, filmed off the coast of Huraa, Maldives, shows the turtle managing to swim with a lot of effort, after being freed and treated by conservationists.

This sea turtles (Olive Ridley) has only one remaining flipper. All other flippers have been lost due to entanglement in an abandoned fishing net (Ghost net).

Young turtle are extremely curious and opportunistic. When they find garbage on the surface such as a ghost nets they will seek refuge within it and find potential food. Unfortunately many become entangled and go unnoticed, often suffering for weeks or months at a time before dying. Entangled sea turtles struggle to free themselves so much that that they amputate their own flipper. This turtle will not survive in the wild with only one flipper.
