STORYLINE:
Palestinians in the Gaza Strip expressed hope for a ceasefire in their besieged coastal enclave as soon as possible, following the truce that took effect between Israel and Lebanon on Wednesday.
SOUNDBITE 1 (Arabic): HANI HAMAD, Displaced Palestinian
"We support the ceasefire in Lebanon because we know what war means. It negatively affects life, whether it is human or economic losses. I hope that the ceasefire in Lebanon will happen in Gaza, because frankly, people are exhausted by the war."
SOUNDBITE 2 (Arabic): HASSAN OWADIA, Displaced Palestinian
"I hope that the ceasefire will happen in Gaza because we have been suffering from the war for 14 months, and we can no longer live in this tragedy. We cannot buy anything because the merchants are exploiting us. We are dying slowly, and we cannot live. Every day, I beg God to stop the war and allow us to return to our homes and meet our loved ones."
The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah has been in effect since early Wednesday.
Meanwhile, in Gaza, Israel continues its large-scale offensive against Hamas, launched in retaliation for a Hamas assault on southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.
The attack resulted in the deaths of about 1,200 Israelis and the capture of approximately 250 hostages.
The Palestinian death toll from ongoing Israeli strikes in Gaza has risen to 44,282, according to a statement by Gaza-based health authorities on Wednesday.
