Nuuk, Greenland - November 28, 2024 In a milestone for Greenland's aviation, Air Greenland’s Airbus A330-800 became the first long-haul aircraft to land at Nuuk’s newly-extended airport runway on November 28. The A330-800, flight GL781 from Copenhagen, touched down on runway 04, now extended to 2,200 meters. This marks a new era for the Greenlandic capital, as Air Greenland also completed its first departure from the updated facility with flight GL281 to Paamiut. The runway’s expansion is set to revolutionize Greenland's air travel, enabling Air Greenland to establish a hub-and-spoke model, connecting regional airports and providing quicker access to international destinations. This development follows the airline's 1979 inauguration of Nuuk's original runway with a Dash 7 flight.
