Britain's largest Amazon distribution centre pictured preparing for Christmas
Videos show Britain's largest Amazon distribution centre preparing for Christmas - in a depot holding four miles of conveyor belts.
The centre, based in Dunfermline, opened in 2011 - and expands over 1.5m square feet.
Behind-the-scenes footage shows rows upon rows of gifts, stacked high on shelves, as staff collect items for orders to be packed into the company's signature boxes.
Staff can be seen passing boxes along four miles of conveyor belts and moving orders from one area to another for processing, gift wrapping, and labelling, before packages are shipped straight to customers' doors.
Over 1,000 seasonal employees are hired over the Black Friday and Christmas period - in addition to the existing 1,200 staff.
One employee described how new hires have been onboarded and says it's important to ensure that everyone is on the same page.
"We prepare a playbook for the team, which is essentially a one-stop shop for all the information an employee might need," said Jae, a senior operations manager at another distribution centre."
"The playbook describes every single part of our operation from front to back," he adds, noting that there are even check marks for every item to make sure the whole team is prepared."
They also run through "what if" scenarios and detail what to do if the team hits any snags, such as faulty equipment or a truck arriving late—that way, Jae says, delivery station employees know how to handle these situations and can escalate them to the manager on duty."
The Amazon fulfilment centre is called EDI4 internally – named after Edinburgh International Airport.
It has 5,900 modular solar panels which generate the equivalent amount of electricity required to power over 320 homes for one year.
